Engineer - Data Engineering - Tableau

We are looking for a Report Developer to focus on building advanced analytics in the form of user-consumable online dashboards and reports. As a relatively new area, you will aid in developing new and exciting analytics to replace many of our existing Excel-based reports, as well as provide guidance and advice on developing new, more creative solutions to existing questions. You will be fully immersed in Tableau and Power BI Desktop daily, being a resident expert on all things Tableau and Power BI, and play a pivotal role in the modernization of our analytics. You will receive business data guidance and support from our team, allowing you to utilize your creativity and visualizations within developed dashboards. At times you will wear other hats in support of our team, including developing other reporting in Cognos, writing queries and code, liaising with business users and our Tableau and Power BI Server teams, troubleshooting and answering data inquiries, and sharing your Tableau and Power BI knowledge through training sessions.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop Tableau Desktop visualizations (90%)
    • Use existing legacy reports as examples; develop Tableau and Power BI visualizations to replace them
    • Fulfill new solution requests where no reporting currently exists
    • Help manage library of existing vizzes
    • Continuous learning and development using Tableau and other BI tools
  • Support team that provides full-stack analytic solutions (5%)
    • Provide guidance and get involved in data governance and data source development
    • Backup support and development in existing BI solutions (Cognos, Excel)
    • Other duties and coverage as required by the team
  • Support overall business migration to Tableau and Power BI (5%)
    • Administer user security and access requests
    • Provide training sessions to other Tableau and Power BI users
    • Run viz demos to end users
    • Investigate data issues; answer user questions.
    • Liaise with Tableau and Power BI Server team

Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent, and 1-2 years of experience
  • Expert proficiency using Tableau
  • Must have the means to demonstrate skills and abilities (e.g. Tableau and Power BI Public portfolio)
  • Expert proficiency writing SQL SELECT statements
  • Very strong technical, analytical, and data visualization skills and an understanding of visualization best practices
  • Must be an independent thinker who can suggest new ways of looking at old problems
  • Should be able to effectively communicate, both written and verbal, to any level of the company and can serve as an “analytic translator”
  • Must possess the ability to facilitate training and coaching of others to improve their ability to use data and analytical tools
  • Has a proven productivity track record while working remotely with minimal supervision
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools, advanced Excel skills are required
  • Should have the ability to adhere to strict deadlines and manage time effectively
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks/assignments
